When did you start your business and what motivated you to go into business for yourself?

Stress Free Tax Season, LLC began in 2007 when I embraced my desire to help small businesses who might be struggling due to poor bookkeeping procedures.

Tell us a little bit about your business?

I help established businesses, having two or more employees, who are ready to fine-tune their bookkeeping, by creating accounting procedures for the company and managing the monthly books for them. My passion to help others extends to new business owners’ who do their own bookkeeping as well. They can find bookkeeping training on my website or join my FaceBook group, Business Owners’ Bookkeeping Bootcamp, to get help with the 5 things they should be going every month that will ensure their business success.

Who is your ideal client/customer?

My ideal clients are new and established business owners. New business owners can benefit from my bookkeeping classes. Established business owners, particularly those with two or more employees, get a personalized bookkeeping system and monthly management.

What is the one thing that sets your company apart from its competitors?

My clients tell me that I put them at ease and help them feel like maybe accounting can actually be fun! I love that! I want all my business owners to be free of the fear that is often associated with accounting.

What is your greatest accomplishment as an entrepreneur so far?

I know that having the proper accounting system in place is so important and it is one of my favorite things to do for a business. I once set up an accounting system for an established business that saved the business thousands upon thousands of dollars because it exposed open invoices they thought had been paid.

What are your top 3 values in life and business?

Compassion, balance, family

What is the most helpful tip or “hack” you’ve ever learned, stumbled across, or been given?

My favorite business tip is to use available apps for your business. My favorite is Hubdoc.com. This program is to PDF copies of your paper documents what electronic bank downloads is to online banking. It can be set up to download and store your PDF statements saving you time gathering important documents each month. You can also use the phone app to snap and store pictures of your receipts. If you use QuickBooks Online or Xero you can post those receipts directly to the accounting software too!

What’s your favorite funny story about yourself?

When I was a child I would walk home from the elementary school by my house. My mom told me that she would watch me walk home from our backyard fence. The walk was about a block long and it would take me about 20 minutes because I would stop and examine every flower or bug that crossed my path. I never new that she was watching but can only imagine how frustrating it must have been that it took me so long!

What is one food/drink you can’t live without?

No, there isn’t one particular food/drink I cannot live without. I love caffeine in its many forms!

Are you a morning or evening person?

I am more of an evening person but I am careful to give myself downtime before bed so that I am not awake all night long thinking about work.

What’s your superpower, or what’s your spirit animal?

My superpower is that I am excellent at solving puzzles. It is easy for me to see the missing pieces inside of an accounting system and know how to find them and solve the puzzle.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I think it would be great to not need sleep. Ha! But since that is not an option, if I could change one thing I would be quicker to follow my instincts and move towards by goals. I love that feeling when you get a great idea and being able to follow up on that immediately would only increase that lovely feeling.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

I would love to see Drew Barrymore play me in a Hollywood movie about my life. I love her spirit and think that she would be a good fit.

What is your best advice for women entrepreneurs?

Some of your favorite people may not understand your journey and that is okay. It doesn’t mean you are doing anything wrong or are on the wrong track. Once they see that this is your new “normal” it will be easier for them to be supportive. For now, Trust in your heart that you are doing the right thing and find like-minded friends, like those in Simple Success Networking, who will support you!
