Say Hello To Carolyn Downs Decker

Meet one of our newest members Carolyn Downs Decker.  She is a financial professional who loves to help families plan for long term financial goals.  She is a single mother of two amazing boys and leads a strong faith based life.  Carolyn is a San Diego native and is passionate about helping her clients achieve financial freedom.  We recently spent some time with her, and she is full of life and truly has the gift of gab.  To learn more about Carolyn, please visit her website at www.joinwealthwave.com/carolyndecker.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in San Diego in the Allied Gardens/Del Cerro area but have lived in Poway since 1999. I am a single mother of two sons. Ethan is 19 years old and attends Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Ben is 16 years old and is a Junior at Poway High School. I am actively involved in the Poway High School PTSA and the Poway Titan Baseball Boosters.

What is your professional bio?

As a Financial Professional, I am committed to educating my clients with the information and tools necessary to achieve financial freedom. Whether you are saving for a large purchase, saving to put a child through college, planning for retirement, or concerned about long term medical care, I can offer you solutions to meet your financial goals.

Why did you start your own business?

I started my own business because I have been laid off by employers either due to downsizing, industry decline, or position elimination. Being my own boss allows me the opportunity to be my own boss, have autonomy, make my own hours, and earn what I truly deserve. I was raised in a family-owned business and proprietorship runs in my blood.

What are you most proud of in your business?

I am most proud of being able to help families to prepare for their long-term financial goals. It is extremely rewarding to know that I have been able protect families’ futures and financial security.

What’s your super power?

My super power is the gift of gab and caring for others. I love talking with people, getting to know what motivates them, and helping them reach their goals. The financial services industry allows me to both help people and be profitable at the same time.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

I cannot live without God. Through Christ, all things are possible.

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not running your business?

When I’m not running my business, my favorite thing to do is to spend time with my boys. That doesn’t happen as often anymore and so when it does, I cherish every second.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you first started?

I wish I would have known how grueling the licensing process would be. It took several months to prepare for and take the securities exams.

Any advice for new entrepreneurs or someone who is thinking of starting their own business?

My advice for new entrepreneurs is to write a business plan, even if you think you do not need one. A business plan will help you stay on track toward meeting your goals. Accountability is key, particularly when you are your own boss.
