We recently caught up with Dawn Klevesahl our June Featured Member Spotlight. Dawn is an incredible mom, wife and a business owner! She has a very unique background including being an Archaeologist and Zookeeper before she found her true passion in accounting. We think you’re going to love her, because we certainly do and if you’re in need of help with your bookkeeping, you definitely want to visit her online site Freelance Bookkeeping.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I have worn many hats over the course of my career; from Archaeologist to Zookeeper before I finally found that I love Accounting! I know it sounds crazy but the one thing that most business owners do not enjoy doing is one of the things that I am passionate about. My other passion in life is my family. I have 3 kids and a wonderful, supportive husband and they keep me very grounded.
What is your professional bio:
As a Certified Professional Bookkeeper, I use bookkeeping as a tool to assess your business sustainability. I use a variety of strategic systems to help you overcome your bookkeeping guilt in an easy stress free environment by accessing the factors jeopardizing your business and recommending how to increase your business sustainability.
Why did you start your own business?
I started Freelance Bookkeeping LLC because I desired to help business owners reduce the amount of time they spend struggling to meet their bookkeeping requirements.
What are you most proud of in your business?
I am most proud that I have been able to create a balance between caring for my family and caring for my clients’ accounts.
What’s your super power?
I am a natural puzzle solver. I see a company’s books as a puzzle with all of the pieces scattered about. I love the feeling I get pulling all of those pieces together to give my clients the true picture of their business sustainability.
What is one thing you can’t live without?
Internet access. I have moved my email and the majority of my accounting programs to the cloud so internet access is critical.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not running your business?
When I am not running my business I am playing with my kids, doing Zumba or Yoga, or watching movies with my husband.
What is one thing you wish you knew when you first started?
Don’t let yourself be held back by well-meaning family and friends who may not be able to see your dream becoming a reality. You are the only one whose opinion of whether or not you should do something matters.
Any advice for new entrepreneurs or someone who is thinking of starting their own business?
Be clear, from the beginning, that there are no conditions on your success. For example, banish the idea that if you do not make it by the time a certain condition is met that you can quit. This type of thinking will keep you from doing the necessary work to become successful. You have to be very clear with yourself that there are no conditions that will stop you from succeeding.
